Custom crochet and leather work
Atelier Ananda is the studio of Sharanjit Sihra (Sharan) in Gravesend, Kent, 30 minutes from London. She makes custom crochet and leather pieces by hand, one at a time: crocheted portrait jackets of people and pets, crochet wall pieces and blankets, and made-to-order leather bags, wallets and belts. Every piece is made to order for one client.

Crocheted portrait jackets, hoodies and cardigans
Your photograph of a person, a pet, a place or an artwork, rebuilt stitch by stitch as a back panel or a whole garment. Often set into a leather jacket Sharan makes by hand. 60 to 250 hours of handwork per piece.

What Sharan doesn’t do
- Leather repairs, including tears and scuffs. The one exception is re-covering a whole chair in leather.
- Painting on leather.
Questions
Can you crochet my dog or cat onto a jacket?
Yes. Send a clear photograph of your pet. Sharan turns it into a colour map, you approve it, and she crochets it onto a jacket, hoodie or cardigan. Crocheted portrait pieces cost £1,500 to £3,500 and take 4 to 6 weeks.
Can you make a crochet portrait of a person as a gift?
Yes. Most commissions start with a photograph of someone. Send it as large as you have it, with the face centred. Sharan will say within five working days whether it works in yarn and what needs adapting.
Can you make a custom leather bag in my colour?
Yes. All six bags in the shop are made to order in black, brown, cognac, burgundy, light blue, dark blue, green, yellow or other colours on request, with gold, silver, gunmetal or bronze hardware. £1,200 to £3,000, 4 to 6 weeks.
Can you design something with me from scratch?
Yes. Bring a sketch, a reference image or just the idea. Sharan develops the design with you on a 20-minute call, then quotes it before anything is made.
Do you work with stylists, costume designers and set designers?
Yes. Send the brief and the date you need it by. Most pieces take 4 to 6 weeks, so Sharan will confirm on the call whether the timing works.
Do you repair leather?
No. Sharan does not repair tears or scuffs and does not paint leather. She does re-cover whole chairs in new leather.
Where are you based and do you ship?
Sharan works from her studio in Gravesend, Kent, 30 minutes from London. Prices include UK delivery. International shipping is quoted before you pay the 30% deposit.
